It hasn’t been long since President Donald Trump took over the White House but it seems like the U.S. Secret Service is feeling the pressure over the protection of The First Family, Western Journalism reports.
The 14-year employee of the Secret Service, Jonathan Wackrow called this task a “monumental task.” According to The Washington post, Wackrow said that the task is a logistical nightmare and also added that agents are at severe risk of burnout, and the very last thing anybody would want is to have his agents burned out.
Wackrow also said that there was an anticipation of how stressful it was going to be on the agency, but the harsh reality is that the stress is just overwhelming.
Also, First Lady Melania Trump’s decision to remain in New York while their son Baron attends school has placed additional strain on the Secret Service. The Washington Post reported that the costs of protecting the building could reach $183 million per year.
The members of the Secret Service must be available at all times to not only provide protection but also do advance planning work to prepare for any and all emergency scenarios as The First Family jets between various residences and far-flung locales. And their job is sure not economical.
The Protection for the Trump Tower provided by the New York City Police Department costs $500,000 per day. The Secret Service is considering renting a floor of Trump Tower from which they would be able to provide the necessary protection for Trump’s visits which would cost $1.5 million annually.
The total cost of the President’s protection, while he is spending the weekends at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, is estimated to be around $3 million for each weekend.
So far, it is anticipated that the Secret Service protection costs for Trump’s family will exceed the $96 million spent during the 8 years of protecting former President Barack Obama.
